Garage Doors in Starrview AcresQuiet doors
for early risers.

When the bedroom sits above the garage, every rattle at six in the morning is personal. For households in Starrview Acres we track each sound to its source: dry rollers, a loose hinge, a chain that has stretched, an opener rail rubbing the ceiling. Fix those and the door becomes something you stop noticing. We serve Cardwell, Purple Hill and Salem as well.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 38 in 100 homes · mixed ages
  • About 38% of homes in Mono were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census. In areas with a spread of building periods, garage doors fail for different reasons on the same street: worn pulleys and stretched cables on the older doors, cycle-limit springs and tired opener gears on the newer ones. Knowing which pattern applies shortens the diagnosis.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 98% of homes in Mono (2021 Census).Single-detached homes give a technician room to work: a driveway for the van, side room beside the tracks and a clear header. That means spring replacement, opener installation and full door replacement can each be finished in one visit with the door properly secured throughout.

When a cable jumps its drum, the door tilts and jams in the track. Putting it back is only half the job: we look for the slack, the worn roller or the frozen seal that caused it, so it stays on.

  1. Part 1The panels

    Garage Door Panel Replacement

The inside face of one section has started to bow outward and the outer skin has a soft, wavy look. Tap it and it sounds hollow in places.

  2. Part 2The springs

    Torsion Spring Replacement

The door starts to rise, gets about the height of your knee, then shudders and reverses. The opener sounds strained, and the top section flexes as the trolley pulls on it, because the motor is doing work the spring used to do.

  3. Part 3The cables

    Garage Door Cable Replacement

Someone left the snow shovel leaning in the opening and the door came down on it. Now a loop of steel cable hangs loose beside the track and the door refuses to close the last few inches.

  4. Part 4Tracks and rollers

    Garage Door Roller Replacement

Since the cold snap the door has been stiff and noisy first thing, and after the last thaw the bottom corner began to judder. There is slush in the foot of the track and a bloom of rust on the lowest wheel.

  5. Part 5The opener

Garage Door Opener Diagnosis and Repair

The wall button works every time. The remote only works if you are practically under the door; from the end of the driveway it does nothing at all.

Garage Door Safety Inspection. During the power outage you pulled the red cord and tried to lift the door by hand.

What people ask us

What happens if my door's design has been discontinued?

It happens with older doors, since embossing patterns, joint profiles and colours change over the years. The technician looks for the nearest current section from the same manufacturer and describes how it would differ in look and fit. Sometimes the difference is minor and acceptable; sometimes the joint no longer mates. In that case the options are a section from a compatible series, or replacing the door as a whole, and both are explained before anything is ordered.

Why should the seal only touch the door lightly?

The fin is meant to bend against the door with a small, even deflection. That is enough to seal, and it lets the fin spring clear as the door lifts. Pressed hard, it drags on the door face, folds under on the way down, squeals and wears through well before its time, and it adds load to the opener. Set too far off, it leaves a standing gap. The light touch is the setting that lasts.

Will new hinges make the door quieter?

Often noticeably. A cracked or loose hinge is the source of many pops, clicks and rattles, and a hinge that holds its roller square lets the wheel run flat instead of scraping the track lip. Combined with fresh lubricant on the knuckles and rollers, the door settles into a steady rumble. Any noise that remains usually points to the rollers, the opener chain or the springs, which the technician can identify for you.

How often should belt tension be checked?

A look every few months is enough: with the door closed and again with it open, the belt should run level with no sag below the rail. A yearly service that checks tension against the spring length, looks at the sprocket and pulley and runs the balance and reversal tests keeps a belt drive quiet for its whole life. Check again after the first hard cold of the winter.
